A woman who weighs all of 125 pounds successfully devoured the 72-ounce steak dinner at the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo in just 40 minutes last month in a video that has gone viral.
The competitive eater and bodybuilder, known as Katina Eats Kilos, apparently was one of the first women to complete the 72-ounce challenge since fellow competitive eater and 120-pounder Molly Schuyler chomped down on ate three of them in a mere 20 minutes in 2015. Schuyler also broke a record for gobbling the first steak dinner in less than five minutes.
I found in the archives that another trim, competitive eater, Miki Sudo, ate two such dinners at the Big Texan last year. Sudo on Saturday ate 48 1/2 hot dogs to win the women’s title Saturday at the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island.
Either way, here’s Katina’s video. It has logged more than 1.3 million views on YouTube since it was uploaded just a few days ago.
A longtime Big Texan employee told me years ago the ones who can most easily accomplish the 72-ounce challenge are not the big, beefy eaters, but the wiry ones. In general, nine out of 10 who attempt it fail.
Like Sudo, Katina is a workout junkie to help stay trim. She also put out a video on what she eats the day after one of her mega-meals.
The Big Texan’s 72-ounce steak dinner challenge began as a publicity stunt by founder Bob Lee in 1962. It also comes with salad, shrimp cocktail, baked potato and a roll. If you eat all of it in 60 minutes, it’s free. If not, you’re out over $70.
The Big Texan was founded on Amarillo Boulevard (aka Route 66) in Amarillo in 1960. After Interstate 40 opened in the early 1970s, the Big Texas picked up and moved there to ensure its survival.

Some things are beyond my comprehension.
I’ve got some jokes here in my head that I won’t make in polite company.
