Concert fundraisers will help preserve Sappington House in Crestwood

Two backyard concerts are scheduled for this month to help preserve the Sappington House, reputedly the first brick home built in St. Louis County more than 200 years ago, in the present-day Route 66 town of Crestwood, Missouri.

The Sappington House, now a museum, sits at 1015 S. Sappington Road, just off Interstate 44 and a mile north of Watson Road (aka Route 66).

The museum stated in a news release to Call Newspapers, with a notable appeal to Route 66 enthusiasts:

“Even though Historic Sappington House was built only four years after the waterway launch of Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery, nearby Route 66 takes us down other roads to the refrains of Latin fusion and classic rock music. We are connecting time and memories for two outdoor, October concerts to raise funds to preserve St. Louis County’s oldest brick home.”

The first show will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with Javier Mendoza “Hobo Cane” will perform a return concert. Tickets are $10 per adult at the gate, with children younger than 12 admitted free of charge.

The Skylark Brothers will perform from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 17. Tickets at the gate are $20 per adult, with children younger than admitted free, that will include one free drink and raffle ticket for a silent auction.

The Barn restaurant on the museum grounds will sell food and drink during both shows.

More about the history of Sappington Home, built in 1808:

A stunning — and rarely-found — example of Federal architecture in Missouri, the historic structure and gardens appear as they did nearly 200 years ago. Built with slave labor, it is thought to be the oldest brick home in St. Louis County. Meticulously restored and renovated, the site allows visitors to look back in time to see how the Sappington family lived in the early 1800s.
