I overlooked this story a few weeks ago, but the neon Route 66 sign at Cyrus Avery Centennial Plaza in Tulsa was damaged by a thief or vandal.

The sign has been taken down for repairs and will be re-erected when it’s completed.

— Season 3 of the original “Route 66” television series will be released on DVD in February, said a publicist for Roxbury/Infinity.

— Jim Hinckley has informed me that a new Harley-Davidson-themed mural will be created on the Route 66-facing wall of Mohave Museum of History and Arts in Kingman, Ariz. A second mural showing the history of the Hualapai tribe also will be painted.

Hinckley also said the town’s fledgling Route 66 association has a tentative plan to line the city’s south side of Route 66 with neon lighting.

“The lights idea has not progressed beyond looking for signs to see what is available and talking with the mayor, unofficially, to see what obstacles we face,” he said. “At this stage there are feasibility studies, an ongoing search for vintage signs and initial unofficial discussions with representatives from the city of Kingman.”

— Under construction but online: the Kansas Historic Route 66 Association’s site.

— Old Air Force buddies are reuniting and hitting the Mother Road, with a documentary film crew in tow. More information is here at the 4 for the Road site.
