I was at Apertures Photo in Tulsa on Friday when a group of spiral-bound images on the counter caught my eye. It was an Oklahoma Route 66 2009 desk calendar produced by Mary E. Kell of Kell Cafe.
It costs $10, and it contains a dozen images from Oklahoma Route 66 (seen above; clock it to enlarge image) shot by Kell. The calendar has its own cardboard stand. It would make a superb stocking-stuffer for the Route 66er in your family.
I e-mailed Kell to get more details about it. Here’s what she said in a reply:
My husband and I rode from Tulsa to Shamrock, TX, on Route 66 on our BMW motorcycle (him) and Vespa scooter (me) this summer, and most of these pictures are from this trip. I went out a couple of times after that from Tulsa to the Kansas border on my own after that trip – it was great and we are officially Route 66 junkies now!
I have been producing calendars since 2003 that are Tulsa-based and of different themes (Art Deco, Churches, Street Scenes, etc.). At first they were black and white and I had 2 other photographers producing them with me, then there were two of us, then last year was the first year to do them on my own and in color.
I have the calendars for sale at Apertures (1936 S. Harvard) and Steve’s Sundry (2612 S. Harvard) in Tulsa and as requested by e-mail. I’m actually about ready to launch my website and will have them for sale there as well (www.kellcafe.com). That should be ready in the next week or so.
You also can enclose a $13 check (the extra is to cover shipping costs) to Kell Calendars and mail it to Kell Calendars, 1602 W. Easton St., Tulsa, OK 74127. If you have other questions, you can e-mail mek(at)kellcafe(dot)com.
