Here’s a video of not one, but two great old bridges on Route 66 in Oklahoma.
One is the famed Pony Bridge over the Canadian River near Hydro. The other is the Lake Overholser Bridge near Oklahoma City.
The music is great, too. UPDATE: The video’s poster tells me the music is by the Pied Pipers. And the song is available on iTunes and Amazon.com.
Can’t you just imagine kids in the backseat counting the trusses on the Pony Bridge out loud — a sort of family ritual every time they drove across? (I counted 38.)
Any idea who performed that version of “Route 66”? I heard some extra lyrics in there, mentioning Joliet, Springfield, MO, Chelsea, Tulsa, El Reno, Tucumcari, Daggett, and Pasadena.
Yes, it indeed is 38 pony trusses over the Canadian River.
I’ve asked the poster of the YouTube who performed “Route 66” with the extra lyrics. I’ll update the post when I find out.
Loved this version of Route 66, but the Happy Trails was none other than the King of the Cowboys, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.
