The neon tubing on the historic Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena, California, apparently was restored in recent days.
The preservation group Friends of the Rialto posted these photos on Facebook last week:
Mosiac Church leases the property, and Friends of the Rialto remains hopeful the church eventually will screen movies there again. The church is doing interior renovations of the property. Other parts of the property will be leased, as well.
The theater began undergoing extensive facade work last summer.
The theater’s owner, Shomof Group, announced in late 2019 it would perform restoration work on its interior.
The Rialto Theatre, at 1023 Fair Oaks Ave., remains part of the original 1926 alignment of Route 66 in South Pasadena.
Built in 1925, the theater is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Closed in 2011, the theater had deteriorated enough that part of its marquee nearly fell off, endangering motorists and pedestrians.
