Senator blocking bill for Route 66 program

I got this e-mail today from David Knudson, executive director of the National Historic Route 66 Federation, about the bill that contains proposal to renew the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program:

Well, Senator Coburn is filibustering the bill. It takes a week to break a filibuster and the Senate won’t waste the time this year. So, It will come back up in January –- supposedly the first week.

In talking with Senator Bingaman’s (a sponsor of the bill) aide; he says it is considered a shoe-in then, attached to an omnibus bill. But, I’ve heard that before.

Coburn is totally illogical and the aide said the only ones he’ll listen to is Oklahomans.

So, Oklahomans get on this guy’s case, please. Tell your friends to, as well. Letters to the Oklahoma newspapers would be excellent. The Oklahoma public needs to know he’s blowing off millions in revenue for his own state.

This is why I urged Oklahomans especially to contact Coburn. I’d heard he’s receptive only to those from the Sooner State, and this affirms that. You can write Coburn here and include these five facts to support the Route 66 Preservation Program. You can also call his Washington office at 202-224-5754, his Tulsa office at 918-581-7651, or his Oklahoma City office at 405-231-4941.
