An artist recently completed a large mural paying tribute to late musician Roger Miller on a building along Route 66 in Erick, Oklahoma, that used to house his museum.
Brian Lewis of Greensboro, North Carolina, painted the mural on the building on the southeast corner of the intersection of Roger Miller Boulevard (aka Route 66) and Sheb Wooley Street.
Do-Wacka-Do Trail Runs and Gravel Rides — named after a Miller song, natch — in Erick helped fund the project.
Below are a few images of the completed mural and as it was being painted:
The building on which the mural was painted was the longtime home for the Roger Miller Museum, which closed in 2017 after years of financial struggle. So it’s nice that Erick again has a nice landmark to recognize one of country music’s most popular artists of the 1960s other than a few street signs.
Miller was born in Texas but spent most of his formative years in Erick. Among his hits during the 1960s were “King of the Road,” “Dang Me,” “Chug a Lug,” “Kansas City Star,” “Husbands and Wives” and “Little Green Apples.”

Wow, that is definitely the coolest thing in Erik, and one of the best looking murals I’ve seen on 66.
