Popular travel vlogger Adam the Woo over the weekend paid a visit to The Outsiders House Museum in Tulsa, which is a house used in “The Outsiders” film from 1983 that’s been restored and is devoted to showing props and memorabilia from the movie.
I’d heard a lot about what’s in the museum, but this 38-minute video is as comprehensive as any on what you’ll find in the house.
It’s amazing how much stuff the home’s owner, former House of Pain member and “Outsiders” fanatic Danny Boy O’Connor, has collected in just a few years. O’Connor now is a full-time resident of Tulsa.
Adam the Woo by happenstance runs into a couple of guys who were extras in the film.
O’Connor, however, does not make an appearance in the video.
Adam the Woo, nearly nine years ago to the day, also made a movie about “The Outsiders” film locations in Tulsa:
Almost all the “The Outsiders” movie was shot in Tulsa because Hinton’s inspirations for the book occurred there when she wrote it at age 17. Scenes included at least two Route 66 landmarks — the Circle Cinema and the Admiral Twin Drive-In theater.
“The Outsiders” film proved notable for casting young actors who later became stars — Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, Emilio Estevez, Diane Lane and Ralph Macchio. Music legend Tom Waits also appeared in the film.
The museum at 731 N. St. Louis Ave. sits about a half-mile north of the old Second Street alignment of Route 66.
