The Tulsa World today posted an update about the historic Meadow Gold sign on Route 66 in Tulsa, which was dismantled and put into storage several years ago after a local car dealership threatened to raze it.
The new, brick pedestal on which the sign will sit is nearly done, and the re-erection of the sign itself will begin in January. It will be at 11th Street and Quaker Avenue — about a mile west of its old location at 11th and Lewis.
About the only disappointment is that the big clocks that were once scheduled to be on the sign won’t be.
“The last time any one remembers seeing the clocks in place was in the late 1970s,” she said. “I’ve been on a lot of wild goose chases looking for them. Nobody can find them.”
Zeigler said the clocks, which were built in Cincinnati, Ohio, could be replicated because she found the plans for them. The issue is funding. It would cost $20,000 for both clocks, she said.
Maybe someday …
