Backland, a luxury campground and eco-lodging establishment known for tented suites, plans to open southeast of the Route 66 town of Williams, Arizona, in late June.
According to a news release from the company:
The team at Backland announced that reservations for stays from July 28, 2022, onwards, are now available. The eco-resort is anticipating opening for business in late June 2022 and will be opening up earlier reservation dates as construction completes.
A 20-minute drive from Williams, AZ, and just nine miles off historic Route 66, Backland is surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine National Forest lands in the midst of the largest ponderosa pine forest in the world. […]
Backland features a unique tented suite concept. Guests get to choose from four exceptional options – the Suite, Sky Suite, Grand Suite, and Grand Sky Suite, all of which include panoramic windows to admire the scenic forest, king-sized beds complete with luxury linen, and an outdoor patio.
The Sky Suite and the Grand Sky Suite, in particular, feature a 16′ wide SkyView window over the bed, providing guests an opportunity to relax and gaze at the star-lit sky. […]
Staying true to eco lodging, the tents are fully insulated, energy-efficient and equipped with water conservation fixtures. In addition, the toiletries provided to guests are also ecologically friendly and biodegradable.
Guests will enjoy dining in Backland’s restaurant, which features gourmet farm-to-table style cuisine. The restaurant has both indoor seating with panoramic views and covered outdoor seating which is integrated with a fire ring and beach-side event patio.
The story also states the grounds contain an 8-acre pond, four miles of nature trails, geocaching, fire pits, spa services and yoga classes.
Looking over the reservations portion of the website, prices for those luxury tents range from $525 to nearly $800 a night. Those prices aren’t your typical KOA campground.
It’s at 6929 E. Rosilda Springs Road (map here), almost directly south of the Grand Canyon Deer Farm between Flagstaff and Williams.
Prospective travelers should keep in mind northern Arizona has been dealing with wildfires lately, much like northern New Mexico. If you book Backland or any other place near forestland, do not be surprised if your plans are forced to change.
