The New Mexico Route 66 Association announced Friday it had received a cost-share grant to produce an instructional video titled titled “Do-It-Yourself Neon Sign Servicing and Repair.”
The association received $7,500 from the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program to produce the $1,500 video.
The association gave more details in a news release:
The association is partnering with Fast TV Network to produce the video, with Fast TV Network providing a significant share of the cost match.
The association proposal was augmented with nine support letters from the seven partnering state associations as well as the Route 66 Alliance and The Road Ahead Partnership, all solicited by association president Melissa Beasley-Lee.
Video content will be largely supplied by New Mexico Route 66 Association preservation officer and board member Johnnie Meier, New Mexico Route 66 Association board member and owner of Southwest Outdoor Electric Co. Larry Plath and Robert Randazzo of Absolutely Neon.
This project will not only serve Route 66 communities, it will also serve communities nationwide. Many communities with classic neon signs do not have affordable neon service, such as Tucumcari whose nearest neon service company is 125 miles away.
When completed, the video will stream on the Fast TV Network, YouTube and other streaming platforms. The video also will be available as a download from the New Mexico Route 66 Association website.
