Arizona Route 66 Association offering grants of up to $10,000

The Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona announced this week it has opened its biannual cost-share grant season in which applicants could earn up to $10,000.

The association is accepting grant applications until Sept. 30. Businesses, chambers of commerce, and community organizations are encouraged to apply for up to $10,000 in matching funds. Projects must preserve, promote, or protect Route 66 in Arizona.

Previous funds have been awarded for historic sign repair at the Grand Canyon Caverns, the creation of meeting space at the Aztec Motel in Seligman, a bridge to connect the Winslow Railroad Museum to its chamber building, and the replacement of garage doors to historically accurate ones at a Winslow Texaco gas station.

“We really want to present our best self to the world during the centennial” in 2026, said Nikki Seegers, director of operations for the association.

The application is posted on the Association’s website. Applications can be submitted only by email and will be accepted until 5 p.m. Sept. 30. Questions about eligible projects or application questions can be directed to nikki@historic66az.com.

For those who are interested in applying but cannot meet the September deadline, the association will accept applications again in the spring of 2023.

The association receives revenue from the Arizona Route 66 license plate program it launched in December 2016. That cash flow has enabled it to move away from being a membership-based organization.
