Ace Sign Co. of Springfield, Illinois, posted another sneak peek of a re-created sign from the long-gone A. Lincoln Motel that stood on Route 66 in the city.
The sign soon will be installed at the Route 66 Experience’s Legacy Neon Park at the Illinois State Fair.
Ace sign provided another preview last month of the A. Lincoln sign, albeit in a black-and-white image and no neon tubing installed.
According to old postcards and other data, the A. Lincoln Motel was at 2927 S. Sixth St. (aka Route 66) in Springfield. It was torn down in the early 1990s to make way for the Cozy Dog Drive-In restaurant’s new building.
The sign, along with an already installed 40-foot Route 66 neon shield, will be near the fairgrounds’ Gate 2 at the corner of Peoria Road (aka Route 66) and Sangamon Avenue. When finished, five neon signs will be at the gate.
Other signs planned in the neon park:
- Bel Air Drive-In from Mitchell;
- Chain of Rocks Motel in Granite City;
- Coliseum Ballroom in Benld.
