The Skyview Drive-In theater in Litchfield, Illinois, will host another Guinness World Record attempt on Oct. 15 as part of Mobil 1’s “Keep Route 66 Kickin'” tour.
According to the Edwardsville Intelligencer, the Route 66 theater co-owned by Mindy Patrovich will see whether it can host the most dogs ever at a drive-in.
She said the movie shown that night will be “A Dog’s Way Home.” The gates and snack bar open at 6:30 p.m. with the movie starting an hour later. Entry is free but Patrovich emphasized that all visitors need to arrive as soon as possible to avoid lines and delays at the event.
“Just come early to have fun,” she said. She said this event is one part of an effort to get people moving and traveling again along Route 66.
Activities will include pet portraits, $50 pet store gift cards (while supplies last) and Wisdom Dog DNA tests. Mike Marcotte with Guinness will be onsite to discuss the world record attempt. The Mobil1 Muffler Man will also be in attendance.
The Skyview was opened in 1950 by Frisina Enterprises, but much of its history is owed to Norman and Del Paul, who owned it for more than 30 years.
In 2016, it was purchased by Pastro Properties Inc., comprised of Mike, Debbie, Nick and Mindy Pastrovich.
It is the last remaining original Route 66 drive-in in Illinois and was inducted into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame.
