“Today” show to feature Route 66 Christmas Chute in Sapulpa

NBC’s long-running morning “Today” show will feature the inaugural Route 66 Christmas Chute in downtown Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

The Tulsa World had some of the details:

Filming will be at 6:15 a.m. Friday, according to an event posting for the attraction. Those interested in taking part are asked to wear warm attire and gather at the Route 66 shield in the middle of the Christmas Chute.

Heaters will be operating, and restaurants will be open for breakfast and coffee.

Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, who leads the state’s tourism department, also touted the “Today” show broadcast:

The Route 66 Christmas Chute, which opened to the public on Nov. 1 along several blocks of Dewey Avenue (aka Route 66) in Sapulpa, consists of 35,000 feet of lights, 1,100 feet of decorations, 15,000 feet of garland, 3,500 icicles and 1,100 grand ball ornaments, culminating with a 30-foot-tall Christmas tree in front of the Creek County Courthouse.

It was put together with $800,000 in donations and countless volunteer hours.

Given its massive popularity and positive word-of-mouth, there’s no doubt the Route 66 Christmas Chute will return annually for years to come.
