It seemed like a good idea at the time

Route 66 artist Jerry McClanahan has an art exhibit at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla. The college installed a “gallery cam” you can access from the Internet. The idea, I suppose, is so folks can view Jerry’s artwork if they’re unable to travel to central Oklahoma.

Unfortunately, the camera doesn’t work well. First of all, it practically requires a broadband connection. Even with my DSL, it’s slow to load and pan the camera. Second, if you try to zoom in on the artwork to get a closer look, it pixelizes into an unrecognizable mess. Third, apparently the camera isn’t working with some browsers (my Firefox seems to handle it OK). Take a look here if you’re curious.

Here’s a better way to see McClanahan’s art. Or you can go to the college and see it in person. The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 30.
