The Muffler Man temporarily erected during Mobil 1’s “Keep Route 66 Kickin'” campaign last summer soon will become a permanent part of the Hi-Way Cafe near Vinita, Oklahoma.
The Route 66 restaurant made the announcement during the relighting ceremony for its refurbished neon sign, then put it out on social media the next day:
The Muffler Man is expected to be installed at the restaurant by mid-April.
The fiberglass giant made an appearance at the restaurant last year when it hosted Mobil 1’s successful world-record attempt to paste more than 66,000 stickers on a car.
Muffler Men have made a nice comeback in the last few years on Route 66, with about a half-dozen giants either being restored or being built from scratch. (A map directing you to Muffler Men can be found here.)
A museum dedicated to Muffler Men also is scheduled to open this summer in Atlanta, Illinois.
