Ninety-six-year-old Angel “Guardian Angel of Route 66” Delgadillo has been building and selling birdhouses to raise money for the welcome arches project planned along Route 66 in Seligman, Arizona.
According to a Facebook post from Angel and Vilma Delgadillo’s Original Route 66 Gift Shop in Seligman, he sells the numbered, signed and dated birdhouses for $100.66. They’re made of reclaimed wood and metal.
Sorry, they’re not shipping the birdhouses. You’ll have to go to his store to buy them.
Delgadillo’s efforts have raised $5,000 for the arches project so far.
The Facebook page for Seligman, AZ Welcome Arches stated on Sunday the ongoing fundraiser for the project has raised more than $26,000.
The arches project has its own GoFundMe online campaign:
These Seligman businesses also have put out donation buckets for the arches: Johnson Travel Center, Seligman KOA and Westside Lilo’s Cafe.
The welcome arches are planned for the west and east sides of the village on Route 66. The project has received the endorsement of the Seligman Chamber of Commerce. It is hoped to have the arches done by Route 66’s centennial in 2026. More about it can be read here.
