The Colonel Mustard Hot Dogs restaurant in Holbrook, Arizona, recently returned an original and restored Richfield gas station sign that once stood at the site.
Colonel Mustard Hot Dogs at 459 Navajo Blvd. (aka Route 66) opened in May, with Vienna Beef Chicago-style hot dogs among its offerings.
Aaron and Becki Colon own the restaurant. Aaron spotted the gas station and decided to fulfill his dream of opening a hot dog eatery there.
More from the The Tribune in Holbrook:
The building itself boasts a rich history, originally established as a Richmond gas station in 1958 during the Route 66 golden era. The restoration project was set in motion when a local resident revealed that he possessed the original sign from the station. Aaron took on the challenge, meticulously recreating the sign’s frame using historical photographs to ensure its authenticity. Just last week, with the assistance of Randy Murph from Welding Services & Supply, they successfully erected the sign, paying homage to the restaurant’s roots.
However, the revival efforts don’t stop at the sign. Aaron has ambitious plans to refurbish and restore the vintage gas pumps from the 1960s that still stand on the premises, further honoring the restaurant’s rich heritage.
The restaurant posted a video on Facebook of the sign being installed:
Richfield gas stations were part of the Richfield Oil Co. that operated from 1906 to 1966. It merged with Atlantic Refining Co. to form Atlantic Richfield Co., later called ARCO.

Very cool to see the original sign reunited with the old business location.
