The Route 66 Association of Missouri recently announced it will hold a ceremonial relighting of the Park Plaza Courts neon sign at 8 p.m. April 13.
The relighting will occur at the Holiday Inn Southwest at 10709 Watson Road (aka Route 66) in St. Louis.
The association has reserved a block of rooms at the hotel at a special rate through March 28 for the event.
Association President Rich Dinkela recently posted photos of the sign being installed:
According to the late Skip Curtis’ “The Missouri US 66 Tour Book,” the motel in a 1950s postcard advertised “85 lovely, air-conditioned rooms and suites” with room phones, television, room service and a Nelson restaurant on the premises. The motel eventually grew to 135 rooms.

That is a beautiful sign. It’s unfortunate that the Coral Court sign was intentionally destroyed.
