Tin Can Alley, an Airbnb site consisting of vintage Airstream trailers, will open in downtown Kingman, Arizona, in early 2025.
Proprietor Stephanie Weaver told Route 66 News in an email this week that it will begin taking reservations in four or five weeks and will open it early next year.
According to The Standard Newspaper, the first Airstreams began arriving this month at the site between Second and Third streets on Andy Devine Boulevard (aka Route 66).
It will be between Scoops on 66 ice cream shop and the Mud on 66 coffee shop.
The Kingman Daily Miner reported in 2022 that the city approved the application by Lenore Knudtson for the Airstream Airbnb site.
Rich Ruggles said the proposed development in “Tin Can Alley” would help meet the goals of tourism attraction and enhancing the Route 66 culture.
Ruggles also said that roadside parks were common along the Mother Road and staff believes this development will revitalize the Route 66 experience for travelers. […]
Inside each Airstreams, Knudtson plans to have a queen-sized bed, a full bathroom and a sitting area. Kitchens would not be included in the units, which she said will encourage guests to eat at local restaurants. At previous meetings, Knudtson said she hopes her business can encourage downtown traffic and give tourists an experience instead of just a place to stay overnight.
At one point, renting a vintage trailer was a rarity along Route 66. But a number of them have popped up in recent years, including at the TeePee Drive-In theater in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and near the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.
