A fire on Thursday damaged the Dazy Courts Apartments and Sleeping Rooms, formerly a motel just off Route 66, in Carthage, Missouri.
KOAM-TV reported several people were treated for smoke inhalation, and one was taken to a hospital.
The fire affected the north side of the complex, which contained six units. The south side was not damaged.
Several residents were rendered homeless because the utility company cut power to the complex.
As the report noted, the Dazy Courts at 115 N. Garrison Ave. are within eyeshot of the landmark Boots Court motel on Route 66.
Route 66 Times reports the motel, aka Dazy Court, was built in 1941. It speculates it was named after Daisy Neese, the wife of the motel’s owner Tilden Neese.
Though some might argue the Dazy Court was not on Route 66, its part of Garrison Avenue was listed on maps as Alternate U.S. 66 from 1931 to 1964, according to Route 66 Deep Tracks.
