I know a lot of roadies are planning to attend the Route 66 Festival later this month in Flagstaff, Ariz., including the Will Rogers Awards banquet that Saturday.
Alas, I will not be one of them. This will be the first festival I’ve missed since 2001. I’ve attended consecutive galas in Springfield, Ill. (twice), Tulsa, San Bernardino, Albuquerque, Clinton, Okla., and Litchfield, Ill.
However, my wife’s job as a schoolteacher and my taking a college computer class are consuming the remainder of our time. This time of year, we simply don’t have the five or so days to spare.
However, never fear. I’ve enlisted longtime roadie Mark Potter to cover the Will Rogers Awards banquet, and he’ll be sending a story and photographs for Route 66 News later that night. So treat him nice. đ
If you hear or see anything else newsworthy during your time at the festival, drop me a line or e-mail a photo at route66news@yahoo.com. You also can send messages through my Twitter account. It’s you readers who provide the tips and eyewitness of what’s going on with the Mother Road, and it’s you readers who’ve helped make Route 66 News a success. That won’t change.
