Here’s a blast from the past: an altered version of “Route 66” (for reasons that will be apparent) by John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, for a Mountain Dew ad in 1996.

I doubt this ad would qualify Johnny Rotten for singing another re-make version of Route 66, but it was a good ad for Mountain Dew (considering the caffeine rush) where everything is going hyper-fast.
I especially liked the end where one of the the two Mongolian guys said “Been there, done that” in obvious reference to Route 66. This speaks volumes about the popularity of the Route that attracts foreign visitors from far away lands. I give it a thumbs-up.
What a fun ad! (of course i loved the sex pistols/pil) Wonder why i never saw it when it came out…
Anyway, not sure it would make be go out and buy a soda, but i did enjoy the tongue-in-cheek reminder of how small the world has gotten…
Is global travel the road trip for my generation? maybe! But all that high-speed continent hopping has got us yearning for the “real” thing (which is why me and my world-traveling crowd are getting back to our roots and hitting the mother road for the first time this summer!!!!)
I forgot about that! Nice find.
Johnny Rotten, how can he be so rotten?
