Mother Road by way of Tokelau

This excellent video of sights along the Mother Road includes an equally good jazz performance of "Route 66" by All of Me, a band based in the New Zealand territory of Tokelau. (Yes, I had to look it up.)

“Trippin’ 66”

Wes Pope, videographer and photographer, posted this well-edited video of still photos, animation and music clips. You can see some of the pinhole photographs he shot on Route 66 here.

Rocking and roading

Here's a spirited version of Bobby Troup's "Route 66" by the Lamont Cranston Band, along with plenty of images from the road itself. The blues-based band has been a mainstay in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area since 1969. It's hard to find that sort of longevity in rock 'n' roll. (Hat tip: Westley Dornseif)

Signs of 66

Here's a well-made slide show of signs you'll see along the Mother Road. Music is the Rolling Stones' version of Bobby Troup's "Route 66."

Scenes from a desolate desert

Ry Cooder's slide guitar score from the movie "Paris, Texas" -- and these desert photos, many from Route 66 -- cast a desolate but lovely mood in this video.
