Tucked into a Village Voice story (warning: some content is not for the puritanical) about a fundraiser for Exotic World Burlesque Museum, the wacky museum just off Route 66 in Helendale, Calif., is this bombsell — the museum will soon pack up to move to Las Vegas.

Sure enough, the museum's Web site confirms it. The annual Miss Exotic World pageant and 49th annual Striptease Reunion is celebrating the impending move this weekend in Sin City.

It's a loss for the Mother Road, as former Marilyn Monroe doppelganger and affable caretaker Dixie Evans (shown above) provided memorable moments for many a  road-tripper who paid a visit to her museum. But the place was in the middle of proverbial nowhere — on an abandoned goat ranch, of all places. Attendance was pretty sparse.

If you could think of anyplace to move a burlesque museum, could you think of any more appropriate than Vegas?

Good luck, Dixie. The Mother Road will miss you.

Visited Dixie a couple of years ago. She had many interesting stories to tell. I am glad to see that her museum will be available to more people. To bad it will not be on Route 66.

Regrettably, I’ve never been to her museum. We were in Southern California last year and plumb forgot about it. :(
