Two Route 66 towns get Byways grants

The Oklahoma Route 66 communities of Stroud and Erick each received grants from the National Scenic Byways program, according to a news release from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

Stroud received a $50,000 grant to help develop a promotional plan for Route 66, according to this spreadsheet.

Erick received a $3,104 grant to buy Route 66 pole banners.

A $40,000 grant for a tri-state publication to publicize Route 66 from Vinita, Okla., to Carthage, Mo., was previously reported.

Applications for 2009 byways grants in Oklahoma will be taken through Feb. 26. Call 405-325-2848 for assistance with the application process.

In other states, Arizona received a $60,000 grant to help update its Route 66 corridor management plan.
