Work on El Trovatore sign tower begins

A few weeks ago, the owners of El Trovatore Motel along Route 66 in Kingman, Ariz., announced they were doing an extensive renovation of the Route 66 landmark.

This week, the motel started work on the enormous sign tower. Co-owner Sam Frisher wrote in an email Thursday:

Today we are starting by taking down the letters to be sent to restore to its original state as it was 73 years ago. […] We have many visitors from all over the world who take pictures of the tower and locals remember when the sign was a beacon of light that could be seen for miles. We hope to finish it before the (Arizona Route 66) Fun Run here.

  1. That looks like a very cool place, and so glad to see it being restored to operation. We hope to stay there when we have the opportunity to head west.
