Developers are building a restaurant inside the historic Thomas Winery along Route 66 in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., reported the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Bobby Bedi, Sartaj Singh, and Sunil Sethi of Rancho-based SSB Partners are renovating the inside of the adobe structure at Foothill Boulevard (aka Route 66) and Vineyard Avenue (map here), and hope to have it open by spring.

Sethi told the newspaper the restaurant / lounge didn’t have a name yet, but would likely reflect the property’s history.

The building, designated California historic landmark No. 490, was built in 1839 by wealthy ranch owner Tiburcio Tapia, according to a sign in front of the building. Some local historians say accounts point to the building having been built several decades later in the 1850s or 1860s.

Inside the Thomas Winery are several historic artifacts, including a conveyor belt, a wooden stair case, and a large wine barrel.

Singh recently bought the nearby Magic Lamp Inn restaurant, another fixture on Route 66 in Rancho Cucamonga.
