Here’s how to send a card for Angel Delgadillo’s 98th birthday

A reader noted that longtime Route 66 advocate Angel Delgadillo will be celebrating his birthday — his 98th — later this month and thought it would be nice if a bunch of roadies sent him birthday cards.

After checking with employees at his gift shop in Seligman, Arizona, they provided a proper mailing address for those wishing to send him greetings.

Cards can be mailed to Angel Delgadillo at P.O. Box 426, Seligman, AZ 86337.

Delgadillo will mark his 98th trip around the sun on April 19. I’ve been assured that he remains in good health.

The now-retired barber shepherded the creation of the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona in 1987 and the designation of that state’s Route 66 as a historic highway. He became a crusader for the old road after his town was bypassed by Interstate 40 in 1978.

He’s arguably the most impactful figure in the renaissance of Route 66; the only one who matches up is “Route 66: The Mother Road” author Michael Wallis.

Delgadillo has done probably hundreds of interviews by now, but this one by Jim Luning stands out:

In recent years, Delgadillo was inducted into the Arizona Tourism Hall of Fame and received the President’s Award for National Leadership in Historic Preservation from the National Trust of Historic Preservation.
